National Centre for Trade Information (NCTI) was set up in 1995 under the aegis of Ministry of Commerce with a view to create an institutional mechanism for collection and dissemination of trade data and improving Business information services to the business community, especially small and medium enterprises. NCTI is a Ministry of Commerce, Govt. of India recognized Trade Point-India under World Trade Point Federation (WTPF) initiated through the Trade Efficiency Programme of United Nations Conference on Trade & Development (UNCTAD). NCTI is the only Operational Trade Point in India and is also the recognized Focal Point of TRade Analysis and INformation System (TRAINS) of UNTPDC.

NCTI is a member of World Trade Point Federation (WTPF), a network of over 100 Trade Points in over 70 countries. This facilitates information flow across the globe. NCTI is also having strong linkages and institutional tie-ups with all Export Promotion Councils, Commodity Boards, Chambers of Commerce and Trade Associations at the national as well as the State level.

Besides using technology for trade for collection, collation and dissemination of trade information, the main objective of NCTI relate to the assimilation of databases of exporters, importers, manufacturers, traders, buying houses etc., carrying out export potential studies, conducting market surveys / sector specific and market specific studies, establishing linkages in India and abroad, organizing seminars/workshops and training programmes in the areas of trade, commerce & informatics and advise to the Government in strategic trade promotion. In short, NCTI is a one stop shop for trad e information, trade transaction, trade facilitation and providing support to trade and industry.

Set up and Structure of NCTI

India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) and National Informatics Centre (NIC) are the promoters of NCTI. Chairman of NCTI is the Director General of NIC and Executive Director is the nominee of ITPO.
